Sexual and gender identity helps us to understand who we are.What sex we belong to and how we percieve that.girls are expected to behave in a certain way and boys are expected to behave in a certain way.society has certain perceptions of how we should behave based on our gender identity.Any thing that is not normal becomes questionable .For example marriages between the same sex is not accpeted by norm though they have their rights.A woman is expected to play the role of the caregiver of the family ,take care of children,cook and take care of the family and men are the bread winners of the family.There are theories of gender development which explain the stages of development from infancy to adulthood based on their sexual orientation.Social cognitive theory goes on to explain the cognitive aspects of gender psychological as well as social construction of gender roles.
