Post Topic: One of your best friends feels that he fails at everything he does and that his life isn’t worth living. When you suggest that he talk to a psychotherapist, your friend responds, “Talking won’t help. The more I talk about myself, the more I think about my problems. The more I think about my problems, the more depressed I get.” Discuss the appropriateness of a biomedical approach for depression. Would this approach be more effective then cognitive therapy? Why?
Only taking with frined is not going to help, it requries a combination of bio mdecial and psycholotherapy. No therapy can work work alone. In the disorders like depression, schizophrenia, biopolar disorder the seretonin level of the person is low, hence antidepressants are given in order to control the seretonin level. SSRi increase the level of seretonin by blocking reuptake process of seretonin due to this seretonin nerve activity is increased. How ever it has also got many side effetcts such as headaches, nausea, sleeplessness, agitation etc.
Hence usually in psychotherapies medication is given for first three months. There are many other Treatments which are effective for eg. CBT - , this aims to change negative thinking pattern of the person. IPT - IINTERPERSONAL treatments) - Aim if this therapy is to identify and modify the current inter personal relationship
