Answer #1

Psychotherapy involves verbal communication as a treatment for mental illness. Sigmund Freud was the pioneer of psychotherapy. He believed that basic anxiety was the root cause for mental illness. Free-association was one was the ways in which he administered psychotherapy on clients. It involved developing a comfortable relationship between the client and the therapist and then have the client simply talk. Simply talking let out a lot of childhood traumas and experiences which are deep rooted cause for mental illness. Psychotherapy unlike other therapies does not rely on medications but involves verbal communication as a treatment for mental illness.
