Do you think the treatment of Genie was ethical (why or why not

Homework Answers

Answer #1

No, i don't think that the treatment of Genie was ethical because of the folllowing reasons-

1- Genie was a girl who lacked language skills and her metal state was also a different and unique one. Therefore, she was not able to communicate with and expresss herself in the way she wished.

2- The research/ study on her did not reflect her full consent.

3- Further, she might be feeling of withdrawing the research. But she was unable to communicate that too.

4- Many researchers opined that even if the name "Genie" is not a real name of the girl and confidentiality is kept, still, her story should not have become a public one and should have been saved from being a topic of mere dicussion.

Thus, Genie's treatment tends to be an unethical one.
