Education- low schooling is associated with low sustained attention, learning, memory, reaction time and working memory. Formal education in early life saw better cognitive performance comparitively.

Health- Smoking, unhealthy mental status are the risk factors for cognitive impairment in older age. Diseases of any physiological system has deleterious effects and also degree of lifetime exposure to systemic illness determines cognitive outcome in older age.

Work - Physical activity declines with age and this is not good for the cognitive functioning in older adults. Older adults who involved in some physical activity had better working memory and fluid intelligence. They also performed well on processing speed, executive functioning and memory.
