The religious involvement of a person usually increases with their age. Middle age people get involved in religion because their faith in God get enhanced. There could be a lot of other factors too, like beating the boredom, connecting to people, personal interest,etc. Some of the benefits of spirituality include:

• Peace of mind: Middle aged people tend to go to places of worship to achieve peace of mind.
• Health benefits : middle aged people achieve mental health and physical health by being spiritual. These benefits include low blood pressure and reduced depression
• Socializing : Places of worship act as centres where people socialize.
• Optimistic thoughts : Spiritual people tend to be more optimistic.

It could be really depressing for people who don't embrace religion to accompany middle-aged people who are religious. They feel that religion is being forced upon them and they don't get peace of mind from visiting religious people. It could rather be depressing for them.
