Answer #1
  • Intelligence is classically defined as “the ability to acquire and utilize knowledge.”Creativity is the ability to come up with new ideas through a mental process of connecting existing concepts. The ideas don’t have to be revolutionary, they just have to be new for the thinker.Intelligence certainly plays a part in creative thinking. To be creative is to pull existing knowledge into a new situation and quickly sort through potential outcomes.Being able to come up with creative ideas isn’t something you need an overly-high IQ to accomplish.Once you’ve got a level of knowledge gathering and utilization that’s about average, you’re well on your way to having the creative potential.
  • So intelligence matters, it demonstrates your ability to gather knowledge and effectively use it. Creativity is the ability to go beyond the intelligence frame and capitalize on seemingly random connections of concepts.
  • Studies have shown that highly creative people are highly intelligent but highly intelligent people are not always creative.
  • The concept of creativity can be subjective. For this reason, scientists use an alternative term called “divergent thinking,” which — in broad terms — means our capacity to find different ways to solve a problem. In the case of language learning, divergent thinking refers to our ability to convey meaning, or put simply: to be able to say the same thing in many different ways independently of grammar correctness.
  • Language learning gives us a new lens through which we see our world and that of others.Language learning helps us improvise and think out of the box.

So I was thinking about this while driving home the other day. I've never been quite clear on why when you drive with the windows down air rushes into your car. I thought this might be explained by Bernoulli's equation for incompressible flow, but I ran into what seems to be a contradiction. If we consider the problem from the reference of the car, the air in the car is stationary and the air outside the car has a certain...
