Jean Piaget developed one of our first comprehensive understandings of cognitive development. He is considered by many to be one of the most influential theorists of our time. However, researchers have also stated that Piaget underestimated the capabilities of children. What do you say?? Let's see if our experiences agree! Please Include citations.
So, for this post, answer the following questions:
1). Discuss two stages of Piaget's stages of cognitive development in detail. Make sure to highlight the strengths and limitations if any at each of the stages you choose.
2). Discuss your interactions with a child at each of the stages that you have choosen. Obviously, you'll need to have current or previous contact with a child of the age range that corresponds to the stages you will discuss. Talk about if and how the characteristics of this child do or do not match your previous description of the expectations within this stage. Describe the similarities and differences.
3). Lastly, what do you think? Based on your experiences, what do you think of this theory's ability to describe cognitive development?
Jean Piaget formulated the theory of cognitive development in children which a child passes through stages in development. The theory can be classified into four stages of development, namely the sensorimotor stage, pre operational stage, concrete operational stage and formal operational stage. The sensorimotor stage is from birth to age two and in this stage the object exists even if it is not there or hidden. The pre operational stage is from 2- 7 years, language development and can think about things symbolically ,child is egocentric and cannot understand in the viewpoint of others. My niece age 2 years is able to speak short words to ask for things she wants and she is sometimes throws tantrums if she wants a toy and is not given it.
