The hegemony of heterosexual orientation is constructed by the social values and norms. As heterosexuality is important for procreation, for the continuation of human race, it is considered as the ideal sexual orientation. This notion is carried forward by institutions of the society as marriage, family, religion, etc. The cultural norms and values promote this orientation and discourages the sexual orientations. Thus, the hegemony of heterosexuality is constructed.
