Answer #1

Antwone Fischer presents a case of a young adult man who has undergone an emotionally and physically turbulent phases in his development into adulthood.he is currently seen to be in early adulthood ( early Twenties). One finds reference made to his infancy as an abandoned baby who was raised as an orphan. Thus it seems that he developed unstable attachment styles during his childhood due to negligence and absence of primary parental/maternal caregivers.

Secondly, there are instances of abuse that he experienced in his foster family during his childhood. This further suggests that his childhood was marked by immense anxiety and anger due to history of abuse at the hand of his adoptive mother and sibling. An important milestone during Childhood is building a sense of accomplishment and independence in one’s own physical ability and developing a positive self-awareness about one’s own body. However, in the case of Antwone Fischer, he appeared to have suffered a setback both in terms of the self concept about his own body and emotions as he lived under a situation of constant uncertainty about his own safety against violence. The rough life that he had as a child had led to the development of a violent temper.

Thirdly, one gets a glimpse of his adolescence as a time of his experiments with seeking greater independence outside the family. While, seeking an identity for oneself as separate from the family is a crucial and normal milestone in adolescence in most individualistic societies, in the case of Antwone, his adolescence is marked by additional turbulence due to his abusive family environment. This draws him to take an extreme action of escaping home and living alone as a homeless for two years.

However, the transition form adolescence into early adulthood is a crucial juncture in the life of an individual as it is in this phase that the person explores his or her vocational interests, prospects of earning a livelihood and also finding social support and intimate relationships with other individuals. One sees Antwone trying to find a stable employment in the military. While Antwone finds himself drawn to the brink of his volatile anger and aggression as a naval officer, he is also found to explore other positive aspects to his life such as claiming social and emotional support of the health professional, and work towards exploring love and intimacy with one of his peers.

Thus, we see that even amidst the most chaotic and dire circumstances, individuals tend to work out a developmental trajectory of their own despite the physical, social or emotional factor such which act as sources of frustration or he inhibition. Thus there is a relatively weighty claim to the argument about milestones and linear progression in development theories. Fro my the perspective of biopsychosocial development, it can be argued that normal healthy development encompasses achievement of all the necessary developmental tasks or milestones in a relatively helath6 and supportive environment. However, the circumstances of economic backwardness and the lack of social privileges extended to single mothers, had indirectly created an emotionally limiting environment for Antwone Fischer as he was forced into a life of an orphan. Such social factors on their part are found to bear an influence on his physical and emotional development as a child. Secondly, one sees how his experiences of abuse created a distorted sense of reality about his own physical appearance and he struggled to create a stable identity for his left as an adolescent.

Thus, both biological and larger social factors and incidents had a major impact in the Development of his personality in adulthood.
