What factors of a group work situation affect cohesiveness?

Group cohesiveness is a kind of bonding among members of group, it force the members to resist separation from the group. The group cohesion generally have three main characteristics.

1- Interpersonal Connection

2- Group Pride

3- Commitment to the group.

The interpersonal connections defines the value of group and also explain utility of particular group matter, the proper communication among the members of group help to increase effective interpersonal connections.

Group pride is an important factor, it belongs to the individual and collective dignity of group. The pride of group is work as a similar goal for every members and they work together to maintain the dignity of group as well as each member.

Commitment to the group increase trust and relationships between members and group. A committed group can be more influential than individual, commitment to the group members, group pride and healthy interpersonal interactions experienced the lead in competition among groups.

Factors that affected Group Cohesion-

1- Mutual interests: The mutual interest helped the group to maintain long term interactions and commitments.

2- Similarities: When group members are similar, it is easier for the group to become cohesive, similarity caused by many factors as religion, work, ideology etc.

3- Openness: group openness is most important for new members, if the group is open and not seems to be conservative and rigid, it will help the group to increase the number of members.

4- Trust: When group members feel that they can trust each other, group cohesiveness more easily developed.

5-Past experiences: If the group members have previous experiences to work in groups, it can be effective factors in cohesiveness.
