• 5.Display rules is a term originally coined by Paul Ekman and Wallace V. Friesen, who used it to explain how people of different cultures manage their displays of emotion, depending on context.
• Ekman and Friesen (1975) have suggested that unwritten codes or "display rules" govern the manner in which emotions may be expressed, and that different rules may be internalized as a function of an individual's culture, gender or family background.For instance, many different cultures necessitate that particular emotions should be masked and that other emotions should be expressed drastically. Emotions can have significant consequences on the founding of interpersonal relationships.
• intensification - exaggerating the emotional expression; refers to creating the appearance that emotions are felt more strongly than they are in reality. For instance, if a person is slightly surprised, he/she may act as if the surprise is exceedingly high. Likewise, if someone feels somewhat sad, he/she may express an overwhelming portion of grief. Other examples of intensification include laughing generously at something which is only slightly amusing, etc.
• de - intensification - decreasing the emotional expression; refers to giving the impression that emotions are felt less strongly than they are in reality.For instance, if a person is angry with someone, he/she may simply exhibit mild irritation rather than revealing all of his/her anger.
• simulation - the imitation of some real thing, state of affairs, or process;refers to displaying an emotion that is not genuinely felt.Simulation, in particular, seems likely to be used for this purpose as it is the only management technique which involves no genuine experience of emotion. The most frequently cited example of this emotion management technique is smiling when one does not experience such positive emotions as: gladness, happiness, delight, glee, joy, cheerfulness, etc.
• inhibition - Conscious or unconscious restraint of a behavioral process, desire, or impulse;involves exposing the appearance of no emotion when in reality one is feeling a definite sort of emotion at the moment of communication. Sometimes people feel an emotion, but do not express it for some reason or another. Prime examples of inhibition include keeping a straight face when something seems funny, hiding attraction towards one’s beloved person, keeping calm voice when feeling angry, etc.
• masking - expressing one emotion while feeling another emotion;differs drastically from the other expression management techniques of emotions in the way that it involves showing a particular emotion when one is feeling a completely different emotion. For instance, under certain circumstances a person may express happiness when he/she feels anger. Likewise, someone may show hatred towards another person when he/she truly loves that very person.
• 6.We live in a time when emotions are high because they're publicly shared, and displayed, in social media. In essence, we've opened up "Pandora's Box" filled with emotions, both positive and negative, for all to see. Regardless of the sentiment of the emotion shared, sharing our feelings with each other builds connection, which equates to relationships. Social media has given us an outlet, a platform to express ourselves openly, with a very high probability of someone else understanding our experience.
• The reason for this is pretty simple: social media has made the world a less lonely place for mankind, because now we can express our opinions and thoughts on a variety of subjects with people near and far.
• So in essence I am not encouraging that people including myself should stop socializing in the real world and concentrate solely on the virtual world. My view is that sometimes restrictions of time and societal prejudices can prove to be a hindrance in free expression of thoughts and emotions and in those circumstances the social media can play a crucial role,so therefore,sometimes it is ok express your emotions on social media without thinking about the repcurssions.I,do that often just to vent it all out on social media when I dont have qnyone around me to understand my emotions,mostly sad ones.
• Sharing your emotional experiences on social media can help connect with people and form interpersonal relationships,You can get another perspective from others,you might become aware that you are not the only one going through an emotional turmoil
• But on the flipside,getting too involved on social media can drift you away from the real relationships you have in your life,your friends and families,people on social media can judge and can post nasty comments which can upset you.
• 7.Sometimes when I get irritated or angry,it is difficult to identify why I am feeling the way I am,I just react impulsively and snap at others feeling guilty afterwards. I dont know what causes,maybe stress of my work,when things are going my way.
