How do Narrative therapists view “problems”—what causes them?
Narrative therapy can be defined as a form of psychotherapy which is non pathologizing and collaborative where a client is seperate from the problem which helps to reach solutions easily.
Narrative therapists primarily view problems as seperate from the client. It is encouraged that the clients do not blame themselves or anyone else for their problem and instead of thinking of themselves as the problem and internalizing it, externalisation of the same is encouraged.
According to narrative therapists problems are caused due to a number of factors such as events and circumstances and not due to your own selves or others.
