What is the biggest limitation a researcher faces when using a correlational design?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The biggest limitation a researcher faces when using a correlational design is that correlational design is used to measure the relationship between two variable, and does not provide the researcher with cause and effect relationship. Unlike the experimental design, where the researcher can pinpoint a cause and its effect, and there is an independent and dependent variable, the correlational design only can measure the level of relationship between variable. Correlation between variable does not imply causation. There could be a common cause or unknown cause because of which there may be a relationship between variable in the correlational method.

One researcher conducted a study using two classes in one school. First, the researcher gave a math test to every student in the two classes. The researcher then asked a teacher in one class to use some new methods when teaching math. The teacher in the second class did not use the new methods. At the end of the semester, the researcher again gave the math test to every student in the two classes. What experimental design did this researcher...

A nurse researcher studied HIV risk factors and protective behaviors among bisexual men using a QUAN → qual design. Data were initially collected from 60 men using a structured questionnaire. In-depth follow-up interviews were then conducted with a subsample of 20 men to facilitate interpretation. Using the Cresswell and Plano Clark design terminology, what is the name of the design the researcher used? A. Explanatory design B. Embedded design C. Exploratory design D. Convergent design
