All forms of psychotherapy require the patient/client to engage with a therapist in some form of discussion. But what about other treatment methods? Do you think it’s completely necessary to talk with a psychotherapist to in order to resolve one’s issues, or can we just solely rely on drug treatments or perhaps psychosurgery? Why?

Psychotherapy use three kind of methods, these methods of clinical interventions work together to enhance the mental and psychological condition of the patients.

1- Biological Methods- These methods belongs to medical science, the approach of medical science believes that mental illness and psychological diseases closely engaged with biological problems as neural and physiological problems. Medical science believes in medication treatment of psychological problems, use of psychoactive drugs, antidepressant drugs, tranquilizers etc.   

2- Behavioural Methods- The behavioural methods belongs to social treatment of psychological disorders, these methods engaged with the patients by various therapies as family therapy, dance therapy and many more.

3- Psychoanalytic Methods- The psychoanalytic methods proposed by Sigmund Freud and Adler, in this method, therapist reads unconscious mind and define the reason of psychological disorders, the psychoanalytic methods describe the fundamental reason as well as non-medication treatment.

            We can see that all therapies needs proper communication between therapists and patients, communication help to know better about disorders and treatments. In the behavioural methods therapist need to counsel patients, time to time while psychoanalysis use direct and proper conversation, we cannot examine patient’s disorder and DSM conditions without proper communication.

Psychosurgery, medication and other medical and biological methods work with other methods so we need to combine all methods to get effective result that is why communication is necessary in psychotherapies.
