Generally speaking, why is it that men have to be the ones initiating going on dates, proposing to wed, etc., while women don't do these kinds of things? Is it looked down upon when women do it? Or is it just simply the norm? Please explain your ideas.

Usually we see that the men are the ones who propose the women for marriages and initiate them to take out on dates and etc. But now a days , we see the new trend. Women too are asking men out and keeping their choices upfront.

It is not looked down upon if the women asks first to a men, but generally they being the softer and gentle sex, drop subtle hints and indicate their interest indirectly , so that the men can approach them. So it is not the norm , but just a matter of choice .
