Answer #1

In “The Significance of the Frontier in American History” essay the historian Frederick Jackson Turner in 1893 proposed the Frontier Thesis or Turner Thesis. The central argument in the frontier thesis was that the American being, democracy, and characteristic was the outcome of the idea of the American frontier. According to him, the idea of the frontier was pushing America into being what it is today. For Turner, it was the process—the moving frontier line—and the resulting expansion that released Americans from the European mindsets that boasted of establishing huge armies, churches, aristocrats or nobles. Frontier land was fresh for the taking. This thesis has wide credibility within the historical circle for many years.
