Please respond to discussion reply in 1 paragraph.
If you see a person who appears to be blind (white cane; service dog), what should you do to be of assistance to this person?
I believe the first thing that we must keep in mind is that a person who is visually impaired should be treated with respect as we would any other person, as we are all human beings. I believe we should first ask of they need my assistance and not assume help is needed. Just because a person is blind does not automatically mean they need my assistance. However, in general, I would be respectful such as offering to hold to door or elevator if I know that we are travelling in the same direction. Or, when on the subway I see people who are blind step onto a full car and there are no vacant seats. So, I would offer my seat because I know how challenging to a busy subway full of people.
If you knew you were going to lose your hearing what preparations would you make?
I believe the first thing that I would do is prepare the people that I interact with daily like family, friends, employer and co-workers. It would be vital that I seek guidance from experienced professionals who know what type of equipment I would need in my environment like special devices for my telephone (TTY), television (closed caption), visual alerts (strobe light) for the doorbell, etc. It's a good idea to alert my local police and fire department to communicate my disability. Then, I would meet with my employer and discuss my hearing loss to ensure my job is secure and what type of accommodations that can be made so I am able to work. Otherwise, I would need to investigate my rights and eligible for disability services.
Thanks,
Jackie
As discussed in response to question one I agree to what writer says,if one come across a blind person or for that matter any person with some disability as a good human being it's your duty to provide help and assistance in any form that is required during that particular situation. Offering helping hand will bring lot of satisfaction to you and also you will be blessed by the person as well. So keep helping, make people happy and stay blessed.
Answer to second question is also adequate, all the necessary steps to be taken are very well stated and discussed , one more thing that can be added is to discuss with the treating doctor and choose best possible intervention that may cause least morbidity. And if I knew I would loose my hearing which is an important sense of human body I would psycholgically prepare my self, to be positive and not to loose hope.
