When The Blair Witch Project came out, many people reported feeling sick while watching it. They were sick not because the movie was scary, but because of the way the camera moved. This movie incorporates a trope called "found footage", which attempts to make the movie more realistic by having a shaky camera (as an individual is filming the movie instead of a film studio). Other movies, like Chronicle, Cloverfield, or Paranormal Activity use similar methods. Based on what we've learned about this week, why would these kinds of movies make people feel nauseous? • Being a found footage movie also makes the movie terrible from the get go, so one is already slighlty ill from the get go knowing its going to be terrible.  The shaking, in order to add to the supposed realism, always is at its most intense when something is actually happening; thus, found footage movies are just close ups of people talking with intermittent moments of something happening that you as the viewer can't really see.The found footage movies use shaking camera angles because of which people experience motion sickness,which is caused by the brain mismatching messages: you may be seated and motionless, but the brain thinks you're on the move.What makes you dizzy is that the visual environment is moving beside you and yet you are still while looking at the screen.
• To a child it could be explained,that since bad people are being shown in the film,that makes the good people like them feel sick and dizzy while watching them and since they have become a part of the experience they feel sick. Thats the most reasonable explanation I can think of explaining motion sickness to a child.
