Herbert Blumer was one of predominant figures to have propounded the theory of symbolic interactionism.

This theory purports that environment (society) and human behavior go hand in hand, and that they have a cyclic effect on each other.

Now, according to Blumer, there are two conditions that propel an action, they are: One is the physiological (innate biological) drive of humans; and the other is the action that is elicited by a given situation at a given point in time.
