You as an individual: With social media, I feel that another aspect of my self, that is virtual in nature, has emerged and exists as an important part of my self concept. Time has to be allocated to ensure that this virtual self of mine functions adequately on the platform and devoted time understanding the world of others as well.

The study of social science: The social sciences are taking into consideration the impact of social media on human behaviour along with the larger social context. Social media affects an individual’s perception of themselves and others around them, shaping their self-concepts and group dynamics. Social media has also given rise to many phenomenon unique to its platform such as cyberbullying, FOMO (fear of missing out) etc, which also warrants investigation from social scientists.

Larger society: As stated above, the advent of social media has brought about a huge change in how individuals interact and relate to each other. Social media is where individuals share stories about themselves and their lives, and also gather and disseminate news and updates occurring across world in general.
