Describe some main sources of how crime is reported. Describe at least three reporting sources: how the data is collected (i.e., provided by police departments), surveys conducted, self-reporting, or research; and what type of crime data is collected

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Crime can be reported through the national emergency number if the situation is very worse and dangerous. If it’s not very dangerous situation, it could be reported to the local police station. If the victim wants to protect themselves from being exposed, the victim could call the local independent charity that will act on the victim’s behalf.

Survey is one common method of collecting crime data from the victims directly. Another way to collect crime data is interviewing the victim and the witnesses in person. Looking into the CCTV footage for crime data has become very common now-a-days.

Almost all kinds of crime data is collected from small theft to massacres because these data will help the criminal justice system to inspect and study the trends of crime and identify frequent offenders and crime spots thus helping in preventing future crimes or to speed up the investigation processes.
