Choose one aspect of visual perception that you believe is important to the job of airline pilot. What would you tell a class of beginning pilots about why it is important? What would you tell a group of experienced pilots? And (just for fun) what would you tell the flight attendants? (No points for the last one.)

Answer #1
  • Although, nowadays, airplanes are self-driven apparatus, they still need human skills and ability in the takeoff and landing activity; therefore, the pilot visual abilities are very important. The aspect of visual ability that I believe is important is Dark adaptation which is the process by which the eyes adapt for optimal night visual acuity under conditions of lowambient illumination. Pilots experimented or rookies needs to assess the ability of their eye to function under dim light, foggy vison condition. If the eyes are not able to effectively adjust in those conditions, they need to enhance it by wearing glasses.
