Life and Debt is a documentary film based on the economic situations of Jamaica . They took loans from international monetary fund and through the guidelines and supervision of world bank. Some conditions which got implied by world bank was very critical and which jamaica,s Prime Minister Micheal Manley was also unaware of . So the criteria was finally not met and the economic situations was into a turmoil which left jamaica with a debt of $ 4.6 billion. The system which got implied overall is imperialism or may be called neocolonialism. This is the critique of this documentary.

The factors for which the documentary demonstrated dependency theory is the boundness of rules and regulations as per the guidelines of international monetary fund and world bank. Several territories from time to time resulted in the bad debt only due to such system .
