Does our culture and contemporary construction of sex privilege penetrative male heterosexuality? If so what are the implications as related to other forms of sexuality?
Our culture and contemporary construction of sex does appear to privilege penetrative male heterosexuality in many implicit ways. For instance, the practice of ‘safe sex’ is often exclusively promotes the use of a condom, rather than encourage alternative sexual practices. This approach to sexuality only reinforces the marginalisation of other forms of sexuality as it completely disregards the existence of the same. It fails to recognise sexual practices followed by non-heterosexual individuals which further stigmatise it.
