Research has been done how stress is reported among the genders. According to APA Men and women report different reactions to stress, both physically and mentally.Women are more likely than men (28 percent vs. 20 percent) to report having a great deal of stress (8, 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale). They are more likely to report physical symptoms associated with stress than men.

But what being surfaced in the research are reporting of stress than actual experiencing of stress. In the hunting gathering stages of evolution of human beings , males being stronger and more involved in it could have encountered more stressful situations of fight and flight. However the stress associated with child birth and rearing still exists from earlier times of evolution to the present day scenario, and the fact that women are equally involved in job in the modern times makes them a likely candidate for more stress exposure. Also chances are more that any research on actual experience of stress across gender becomes inconclusive due to the complexities involved in it. So relating lesser life span of men over women to experiencing of stress is questionable.
