Answer #1

This article has been one of the papers highly used in psychology. This article explains that an average human can withhold in their working memory is 7 +- 2. This is also referred to as miller’s law. This articls explains that the memory span of an individual is not constant even if it would be measured in various chunks. The category of chunks used, would be able to identify the number of chunks that a person would be able to recall on an immediate form. This article explained limitations of working memory.

This information could be used for improving working memory in the following manner:

  • When remembering information, it would be more useful if information is grouped in a chunk of 7 so that these could be remembered and encoded more efficiently in the working memory.
  • Large amount of information could be encoded in the form of mnemonics, so that these could be remembered more easily.
