The vast majority of working people know that sexual harassment is both illegal and immoral. Why then is sexual harassment of both types so widely practiced in the workplace?
Despite knowing that sexual harassment in the workplace is both illegal and immoral in the workplace, it is widely practiced because it is accepted by male and female employees as a common occurrence. In my view, most instances of sexual harassment go unreported and this encourages individuals to engage it it, presuming it to be a casual act with little consequence. The influence of power dynamics also come into play in this picture as the perpetrators usually have a higher position of authority in the organisation. This leads to a situation where power is abused to take sexual advantage of the victims.
