1) In our society, why do we tend to blame the female victim of a sexual assault, but not the male victim of a robbery?
2) In what other ways have we historically discriminated against women? What were some of the reasons that were given for this?
3) What other groups in our society (other than women) have we discriminated against? Provide two specific examples for each group you select to defend your answer.
1. Woman have long since been blamed for being caught in the eye of a sexual assault. This accusation and the reasonkng behind this accusation is as absurd as they can get. People believe that a woman 'had it coming' due to her provocative body language and dressing which invites predatory behavior. There is a twisted argument of attributing fault to the 'object' of desire as opposed to the predatory theory of mind. Victims are mostly blamed for having dome something wrong that induced the behavior whereas a male victim in a given robbery will be given full leeway for not having made an erroneous judgment.
2. Historically, woman were thought to be the delicate charmers of the house who were not allowed to venture outside without assistance amd they were home schooled as well, for it was believed that an educated woman was no good. They stayed indoors and were given the title of a 'socialite' rather than having any contribution in the family business. They were the designated home makers.
3. There was discrimination against the Africans due to their race and color, Civil rights movement is an example of this.
And there was discrimination against homosexuals, for they were considered diseased, in fact the DSM at one point listed it as a disorder.
