When would a researcher use a t-test for independent means? Provide an example.
A researcher would use a t-test to compare the averages or means of two samples to find out significance of the differences of means with reference to population of which the samples were. Example- A researcher conduct a study to find out the differences between men and women in caffeine consumption of a particular place. For this he can draw a sample from both the groups and collect data from the samples. These means of both sample group would be compared for any significant difference. If there's any significant difference it would represent the whole population from which the sample was.
