Discussion: Bonobos
What to do:
Please watch the Ted lecture by Sue Rumbaugh on bonobos Video Links: https://www.ted.com/talks/susan_savage_rumbaugh_on_apes_that_write?language=en
Discuss whether or not the video changed your view of the behavioral and cognitive similarities between humans and apes.
Please also reply to at one other student's post.
We always believed that the humans were of higher intelligence and higher order thought for our mere ability to learn and apply that learning in praxis.
But, when we look at Susan Savages talk on Bonobos, we realise that humans aren't the only species to have built schemas, which are the representative frameworks through which ew view our world. Apes, as is seen in the video when they are lighting, keeping and using fire, knowing the use of water with respect to fire and communication with emblems and expression vocalization: it is clear that apes have a propenisty to develop these schemas as well and show a strong inclination towards learning and application.
