• Social trends, including the increased prevalence of school violence, eating disorders, drug use, and depression, affect many upper elementary school students. Thus, there is more pressure on schools to recognize problems in eight-to eleven-year-olds, and to teach children the social and life skills that will help them continue to develop into healthy adolescents.
• For children in middle stage family issues can be challenge. Both parents working and not giving due attention to their child could have adverse effect on their development.
• School is another important factor wherein children socialise and peers become an important part of the development.Trying to fit into the group leads the child to experience pressures of trying to be "cool" and even imititating others and may indulge into wrong behaviours as well.Parents can help to mitigate these problems by talking to their middle schoolers about cliques and peer pressure.
• Kids in the middle childhood stage who begin puberty early may feel uneasy about their growing bodies or experience unhappiness due to a negative self-image. Discussing the changes of puberty with your child and helping her to understand that everyone goes through this stage -- just at somewhat different times -- can help her to feel better about her body and her development.
