Part 1: Examine the differences between men and women in how they approach conflict. Include research findings from Adler and Proctor as well as your own experiences.

Part 2: “In order for there to be winners, there have to be losers.” Discuss this statement by examining an interpersonal conflict in which you have been involved.

Gender differences can be observed in terms of how conflict is approached and subsequently managed. Overall, males tend to be more aggressive, demanding and competitive while females adopt a more cooperative approach that focusses on reaching a consensus. Male conflict styles are characterised by the need to achieve power whereas females focus on relational aspects. From my personal experiences, I have also noted that men are able to recover from conflicts relatively quickly from conflicts. However, females tend to ruminate about the consequences of the conflict and allow it to impact their relationship with others
