The major principles of psychological perspectives on criminal behavior include the biological basis of a criminal bent of mind. Thus according to this view crimes are committed as a result of abnormal, dysfunctional, or inappropriate mental processes in an individual’s personality. Thus people have a genetic predisposition to crime. According to another approach, the criminal behavior may due to certain needs of the person. Hence they have a purpose for the individual. This behavior is considered inappropriate in the frame of social norms. Normality and abnormality as basically based on the norms of the society. What is accepted by society as a whole is considered appropriate? Thus our society and our genes i.e. nature and nurture both govern our behavior.
