The infectious diseases that spread due to sexual contact or via the body fluids are termed as the STDs. These diseases have widespread symptoms and may even go unnoticed. STDs can be prevented by avoiding unprotected sexual intercourse. The infectious agents that are transmitted during STDs include the following:

  • Bacteria which cause the disease - gonorrhea, syphilis or the chlamydia
  • Parasites which are the cause of trichomoniasis
  • Viruses which cause genital herpes, HPV or the HIV

PREVALENCE:

According to WHO, per day more than 1 million people acquire STDs worldwide.

Per year around 357 million new people are contracted with 1 of these 4 STDs due to the causal bacteria and/or parasite.
