There are internal and external barriers to communication.

External barriers are distraction, disturbances, diversions and discomfort. It is better to avoid communication when external barriers are present. Internal barriers are lack of interest and lack of understanding. Do not talk to people that threatens and invokes their defense mechanism. When such talk is needed, neutralizing the negative and reassuring the person has to be done. To avoid misunderstanding, things have to be explained carefully. This can be achieved by talking in simple words.
