The definition of intelligence is simple; it is an individual's capacity to learn, reason, and solve problems. What is complex is how we measure that capacity and use that measurement. One of the original uses of intelligence testing in the early 1900s was to separate or segregate those individuals who were deemed of low intelligence. Provide a brief history of intelligence theories and testing and how it is currently utilized. Choose one of the intelligence tests described in your course readings and research the Internet for more information on the test. Report your findings. Based on what you found and your readings, provide your views on intelligence testing (remember to support your views with cited sources).

The term intelligence was first developed by a german psychologist and Alfres binnet developed first test on intelligence to measure child's intelligece. There after intelligence tests became very popular. Following are some theories of intelligence

Charles Spearman general intelligence - Acc to him there was general cognitive intelligence rather one particular aptitude and it was known as g Factor.

Louis Thurstone - Primary mental abilities, his test comprised of several aptitudes such as verbal, numerical, word fluencey, assoiative memory memory etc.

Howard Gardner - Multiple intelligence - Acc to Gardener IQ tests are not accurate description of human intelligence, culture also plays an important role in associating importance to each factor such as visual - spatial intelligence, verbal -liguistic intelligence, logical -mathematical intelligence etc.

Robert Sternberg -Triarchic theory of intelligence - his theory is involved around three factors such as analytic intelligence - problem solving, creative intelligence - capacity to deal with situation using past and current experiences, practical intelligence - ability to adjust,adapt with the situation. This theory was developed in 1980, acc to Sternberg intelligence is complex and very deep factor rather than simple definition. Component intelligence was also refered as analytical intelligence, these people are more able to think abstractly. They are able to comapre, contrast, question, judge, evaluate things. Creative intelligence is also known as experimental intelligence - it is people's ability to invent new solutions by using their past knowledge. It is further divided into 2 different categories such as Novelty - it is ability to deal with problem for the first time and Automation - to automatically perform the repeated tasks. Practical intelligence is also referred to as contextual intelligence.- It is the ability of a person to adjust with new situations such as delaing with everyday tasks. It involves tasks with lot of common sense. It involves process of adapting and modiying environment in order to accomplish the goal. It is mostely associated with wisdom, they seem to combine unrelated facts to ideas.

acc to me the CI intelligence plays an important role, because it is fast and ever changing world. I guess in contextual intelligence ine uses his own values, culture and try to find solutions. They can understand gaps thereby problems and try to fill them up. This contextual intelligence is more used in sports psychology. This is helpful in learning many tjings let us say learning a language. Though a persin may not have good lingual abilities but due to CI factor he can master the local language if not literature. CI plays an important role when it comes to any learning of any new activity. Obviously, social and personal norms plays an important role as thinking is affected die to these factors.
