  • Self confidence or self esteem can be measured using Rosenberg self esteem scale and The state self esteem scale.
  • The State Self Esteem Scale (SSES)-includes three facets of self esteem: Appearance, Performance, and Social.
  • The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, a widely used self-reportinstrument for evaluating individual self-esteem, was investigated using item response theory. Factor analysis identified a single common factor, contrary to some previous studies that extracted separate Self-Confidence and Self-Depreciation factors. Since its more commonly used I would prefer to use it but it doesnt provide any diagnosis for poor mental health due to low self esteem
  • It is also easy to administer as it uses a Likert scale. It uses a scale of 0-30 where a score less than 15 may indicate a problematic low self esteem. The RSES is designed similar to social-survey questionnaires. It is a ten-item Likert-type scale with items answered on a four-point scale—from strongly agree to strongly disagree.
  • It is used with children and adults and is considered to be reliable and valid measure of self esteem. The SES has been validated for use with substance abusers and other clinical groups, and is regularly used in treatment outcome studies. The scale has been validated for use with both male and female adolescent, adult and elderly populations.
  • Although Rosenberg's self esteem scale has excellent psychometric properties it constitutes a unidimensional scale that does not capture the complexity of self esteem.
