Individuals with higher income or higher socio-economic status are more likely to have the resources to be literate and educate themselves. Higher income to an extent corresponds with higher literacy rate. Thus, it can be assumed that individuals with higher income are more likely to be educated and thus, are capable to cater for medical and health needs in old-age. Older African Americans and Hispanics are less likely to have a college degree in comparison to Whites. Asians are relatively more educated than Whites, however they live in more poor conditions than Whites. However, individuals with a higher socio-economic status are less likely to be prone to threatening health problems, since they would have the resources for better living conditions.
