Not sure what he mean by this?
Give a real-life example of at least 2 instances this week when you used one of the three heuristics discussed in class (availability heuristic, representativeness heuristic, anchoring & adjustment heuristic). For each example, describe the situation, which heuristic you used, how you used the heuristic, and what the outcome was. Were there any negative or positive consequences of using the heuristic?
Example 1 : When I was reading newspapers I saw there are many stories that covered rape incidents in various sides of the country. So that created a mental shortcut for me that I can also be the victim. So I tried to come home as early as possible by managing my workplace. But as an employee I had to maintain time also which created a bad impression for my career. Availability heuristic is the concept here that I made quick and short cut decision. Availability of the news made the mental shortcut. At one side it was good because it is necessary to be aware about our world and society. But on the other hand, it can lead to problems and errors. Such problems are much more typical than they really are.
Example 2 - I met 3 students from the same school but from different classes and each of them seems to be arrogant. So I thought that every students of that school is arrogant. I, here, used the representative sample to judge the all over school students. This is known as representative heuristics. At one side it is good because in this case we have no time to personally meet all the students but on the other hand, it is about ignoring facts and lead us to develop schemas which may not be true.
