Summarize civil commitment laws for se-x offenders.

Civil commitment laws have been used for a long time, almost 2 decades. These are different from one state to the other. The idea of designing these laws were that the people who are mentally ill and they would be needing treatment. These laws emphasised on the community based treatment for these laws. The se-xual offenders that have already been in prison, would be institutionalised in an indefinite manner. These are referred to as rehabilitative procedures such that these would be protecting themselves and the society from further harm. These laws are not punitive in nature. These had been extended to federal charges and not only state charges.
