Youth gangs or street gangs usually comprise a group of 3 or more young adults who belong to the age group 12 to 24 years with a shared identity, name, symbols and allegiance.

Some important facts about the structure of youth gang groups are:

1) They are becoming more organized and more dangerous to the society.

2) Studies have shown that the original structure of such gangs showed an age-specific and geography-specific segregation of powers. However, this fashion of segregation has declined over the years.

3) Youth gang groups now are more automous, independent and less territorial than it used to be.

4)Leadership in youth gangs are more complex in nature. It is activity based, fluid and very responsive.

5) Members are generally involved in selling drugs and other inter-gang rivalries.
