What are the current trends in personality research?

What, in your opinion, is the future direction of personality research and theory?

From my observation, the current trend towards personality seems to be a movement towards the cognitive-neurobiological perspective. The rapid advancement in technology is now allowing researchers to understand and map the brain and its underlying neural mechanisms, leading to a shift in explaining personality solely in terms of observed behaviours. Perhaps, the future of personality research would be attempting to conceptualise and create a ‘self’ in artificially intelligent machines.
