What determines whether you will engage in social reflection or social comparison following a friend's success on some task? Select one: a. your level of self-awareness b. whether you were reared in a collectivist or individualist culture c. your level of self-esteem d. the relevance of the task to your self-concept
Here answer may vary from person to person. From my point of
view (d) should be a correct option.
Reason being: If one is not related to the particular task his/her
friend succeeded in, the social comparison thing won't arise. Let
me give you an example here, suppose my friend has cleared an MNC's
interview while my interest lies in art then his/her selection
won't affect me much so I won't care or compare myself with him/her
because I have completely different self-concept which is
irrelevant from what my friend achieved.
