Every hero became one through the eyes of the one who liked them where as the so called villain was made so by the the same person because he didn't like him. History was and is written by winners of wars by hiding the reality. People who lost will have a different story to tell about he cruel and inhuman acts of the one who one.
If we take colonization, we only speak from the eyes of the colonizer and not from the eyes of the colonized. We don't teach our generations how cruel and uncivilised we were in colonising others.
Another example is settlers against Native Americans. The story speaks how brave the European Americans were, how intelligent they were etc. It never speaks of the cruelty it unleashed on the Native Americans.
So, writing the story from another character's perspective will definitely have a different consequence.
