Similarities between an Index and Scale :
- Both the types of measurement are
ordinal tools of research.
- The measurement in both types
includes more than one variable to give multiple measurements.
- The result is an indicative
comparison between various variables.
Differences between an Index and Scale :
- An index compiles various variables
whereas a scale measures the intensity of each variable.
- An index is a quantitative measure
as opposed to scaling which is a composite measure of quantitative
as well as the qualitative differences in intensities.
- An index accumulates scores without
correlating the items whereas a scale assigns scores by taking the
intercorrelation of items into account.
