Answer #1
  • Episodic memories do decrease with age.Episodic memory refers to the recollection of personal experiences that contain information on what has happened and also where and when these events tooks place. Episodic memory function is extremely sensitive to cerebral aging and neurodegerative diseases. Source information can decline with age;for example,a person after a certain age might not remember the place where the personal event took place and cannot remember the specific details of the venue.
  • Semantic memories consist of general facts and information. This type of memory also gets effected by age. This tends to improve with age.For example, understanding the concept that clocks are used to tell time is a simple example of semantic memory. This type of memory also includes vocabulary and knowledge of language.
  • Implicit or Procedural memory is a type of long-term memory involving how to perform different actions and skills. Essentially, it is the memory of how to do certain things. Riding a bike, tying your shoes, and cooking an omelet are all examples of procedural memories This is also less likely to decrease with age.
  • Memory for contextual details (source memory) shows greater age-related decline than memory for content (item memory). The age-related deficit in source memory can be traced to declines in executive and associative processes.
