Discuss reasons that informal and family care-giving is so essential to the American health and long-term care systems.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Informal and family caregiving is essential to the American health and long term system primarily due to the exorbitant costs associated with formal systems. Institutionalising those requiring long term medical care is likely to have a huge economic implications on the family as such services are not covered by insurances. Diseases that require lifelong care would lead to an even greater drain of financial resources. In this case, pricing informal and family care is a suitable and economic option. Not only does it save the family a large amount of finances, it aso allows the patient to lead close to ordinary lives, in the presence of their loved ones.
