Examples of defense mechanisms-

Regression- I have seen a adolescent boy sucking his thumb whenever he does his homework (homework is stressful for him).

Reaction formation- My roommate doesn't like me but whenever she meets to me she so gentle and polite to me.

Projection- One of my classmate always complaint that others are making her uncomfortable either she never tries to communicate adequately.

Rationalization- One of my friend always gives excuses or try to rationalize for his unwanted deeds although his reason doesn't work.

Displacement- My tution teacher was trying to scold me very badly after having a bad day.
