The gardner and the carpenter by Allisson Gopnik, explaind the relationship between parents and children ( Methods and Methdology) 2 paragraphs
In the book "The gardener and the carpenter" child psychologist Allison Gopnik speaks about the parenting ways, their flaws and strenghts. She through various experiments and studies compares two types of parenting, and tells why one type of parenting is more effective and efficient than the other and recommend all the parents to establish that particular type of parenting.
Alison through various experiments, as in one studies presented set of toys which had some functions, as some would squeak, lighted up or even had a mirror in it, that children had to discover. One group of children had the help of experimenter to some limits, while the other group didn't received any help. It was interesting discovery that the children who received minimum help found out all the functions of the toys, while, the children who received some help couldn't find all the functions, but were stuck with limited discovery of functions of toys for which they received help.
Here Allison, through the experiments and studies gives out a message that parenting technique or the parent-child relationship should like that of gardener, who tend the plant for maximum development of it's potentialities. They should nurture their children so that they could develop their inborn qualities to its fullest. Parent child relationship should not like be that of a carpenter who chisels and shape the wood to give it be a static shape, that is fixed and rigid. Children shouldn't be moulded into the wishes and wants of the parents, as it diminish their abilities and potentialities, and keep them from discovering their prospects and developing them. But the parents should give their children chances to discover and develop their prospects, their qualities, like a gardener and help them to grow into individuals who are unique and have discovered and developed their unique talents and ablities.
